Hugo Ford is a consultant medical oncologist and the Director of Cancer Services at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Dr Ford is a national leader in the field of gastrointestinal cancer. His NHS practice is based at Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge, where he is the Director of Cancer Services. His specialist interests include colorectal cancer, oesophageal cancer and gastric cancer, as well as the investigation and management of carcinoma of unknown primary site.

Dr Ford is a member of the NCRI oesophago-gastric subgroup, which co-ordinates UK research into cancers of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and the NHS England Upper GI Cancer Clinical Reference Group which advises the NHS on clinical services for patients with these cancers. He is principal investigator in a number of trials of novel therapies in this area, and brings this experience to bear to provide state of the art chemotherapy and biological therapy to patients with both upper and lower gastrointestinal tract tumours.

Dr Ford trained in medicine at Magdalene College Cambridge and St Thomas’s Hospital, London. He undertook postgraduate training in medical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and the Institute of Cancer Research, where he was awarded the Sir Lionel Whitby medal from the University of Cambridge for his postgraduate (MD) research. He grew up in Cambridgeshire and moved back to Cambridge to take up a post as a consultant medical oncologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2003.

He also has a strong interest in the use of performance data to improve services and is a member of Dr Foster Ethics.
